The furniture store Ikea uses the autonomous trucks from Kodiak for transport in the USA.
the autonomous trucks romp around in the south of the USA, where the weather is better for autonomous driving. Ikea has now followed this trend. The furniture company is testing the use of autonomous trucks Kodiak Robotics at a longer distance.
Specifically, the Ikea-loaded trucks drive through Texas. There they deliver the freight autonomously, seven days a week. In this way one hopes for more effectiveness, an improved work situation and more road safety. The route is nearly 300 miles from the Baytown distribution center to the Frisco store. A pilot was already being tested in August.
For safety reasons, there is a person on board the truck who can intervene in an emergency. The tests should now also show the effect of autonomous driving. This raises the question of whether drivers can concentrate better on city traffic if they can rest at a distance. Furthermore, it is hoped that the automation will save fuel.
