Even as India officially entered the 5G spectrum in October of this year, Ashish Sharma, VP, Automotive, India, Capgemini, believes that the development may lead to triggering of vehicle-to-everything (V2X)- based solutions and basic V2X features with partial automation may become prevalent across India.
“The auto market has already started adopting several advancements such as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistant System) and mobile app-based controls,” Sharma told Autocar Professional.
The development seems significant considering that the software and E/E (Electrical & Electronic) component market is expected to grow from $238 billion in 2020 to $469 billion over the next 10 years. It is estimated that as many as 775 million connected cars will be on the road by 2023 (via telematics modules or via consumer apps). The software and E/E market is estimated to grow at a compounded annual growth (CAGR) of three percent during the period 2020 – 2030.
Sharma further explained that though 5G adoption has been rolled out in the country, its full-fledged usage in the automotive sector may take time. Further, fully automated autonomous vehicles might not look like an immediate possibility because of lack of compliance to traffic rules rather than the dearth of technology.
