French marque Peugeot held the global premiere of its latest SUV on Saturday in celebration of its 20th anniversary in China, the world’s largest vehicle market.

Peugeot was introduced into Sino-French joint venture Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen in 2002. So far, over 2.8 million Peugeot-branded vehicles have been sold in the country.

The new Peugeot 5008 made its global debut on Saturday, a sign of the French marque’s commitment to further exploring the Chinese market.

The model is available in three variants, bearing the marque’s brand-new logo. It sports a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The vehicle generates a maximum output of 155 kW and a top torque of 300 Nm.

The 5008 has a 12.3-inch liquid crystal display and a 10-inch center console. It also features the new-generation Blue-i 3.0 system, which incorporates such functions as voice command, navigation as well as music.

Also, the joint venture’s another brand, Citroen, has launched models this year to bolster its sales in the Chinese market.

Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen has seen its sales grow for 23 months in a row. It has sold over 100,000 vehicles so far this year, more than its total sales in 2021.
