Swedish company Einride is ending a pilot project with an autonomous heavy-duty truck in the United States.
The test of Einride took place in Selmer, Tennessee, where an autonomous e-truck was driving on the public road. At the beginning of the year, the Swedish company Einride received the first Permit for operating an autonomous truck in the USA. With the permission of NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) you successfully completed the challenge without on-board personnel.
The pilot, in partnership with GE Appliances, lasted two weeks in October. GE supported the vehicle with real-time workflows and transported the goods from GE Appliances facilities. The completion of this pilot project, Einride said, is a significant step in the operation of autonomous heavy-duty trucking in the United States.
The movement of goods took place between the production site and the warehouse of GE Appliances. For connectivity, Einride turned to Ericsson, which provided a private connectivity network for seamless vehicle functions. In this way it was possible to use the vehicles Remote control to monitor.
Einride learned a lot from the assignment, it was announced. The company maintains one of the largest e-fleets in Europe and the USA.
