Vmoto and Pininfarina unveil ‘wind-sculpted’ maxi-scooter concept at EICMA

On the opening day of the 79th EICMA at the Milan-Rho exhibition centre, Vmoto Soco Group is presenting the first concept, result of an ambitious and innovative project initiated in partnership with Pininfarina.

The Vmoto Soco Group, which has a production capacity of more than 300,000 high-quality electric vehicles, has inked a collaboration with the Italian styling house to realise a cross-cutting programme designed for electric mobility.

The concept aims to realise the vision of a new generation of EVs and also set the guidelines for other sustainable mobility projects. This, according to Vmoto Soco, “is the first step towards the realisation of an idea never before explored by any manufacturer in the field of urban mobility. The search for maximum efficiency has indeed directed the designers towards solutions involving electronics, battery components, motor and weight reduction.”

The project’s aim was to add a valuable factor – a low aerodynamic drag coefficient that has positive incremental effects on the performance and riding range of an electric two-wheeled vehicle. Vmoto Soco identified Pininfarina as the qualified partner able to share the challenge: to combine beauty and elegance with low aerodynamic resistance and to optimise the airflow and in turn increase battery life.

Pininfarina’s concept design, characterised by an aerodynamic style and ‘wind-sculpted’ shapes, is aimed at increasing the performance of the two-wheeled electric vehicle.

Pininfarina, a worldwide icon of Italian design and style, has been working in the field of aerodynamics over 50 years thanks to its own wind tunnel. Pininfarina also worked on the creation of the stylistic personality by introducing some strongly characterising elements such as the lighting system that becomes a ‘lighting brand signature’ taking up the V of the Vmoto brand. Finally, the introduction of an additional external battery, integrated in the shapes, increases the riding range of the vehicle and further distinguishes its aesthetic character by giving it a more motorcycling look.

“The growth and innovation program presented at EICMA 2021 with the worldwide launch of the new premium brand VMOTO aims to create tools for urban mobility, accessible to everyone and for all needs. The continuous improvement of our products’ performance, to facilitate the transition from traditional to electric mobility, is our priority. The need to introduce new aerodynamic concepts to the service and support of technologies already in use is necessary to achieve maximum performance. To succeed we needed to identify a partner of great experience and authoritative technical ability. The choice to entrust this project to Pininfarina was a natural one,” says Graziano Milone, President and CEO of Vmoto.

“It is such an honour for our company to start collaborating with Pininfarina. I am sure that Vmoto’s experience in the design and development of electric vehicles together with the technical expertise and the introduction of new concepts coming from automotive, which a partner like Pininfarina can share with us, will be a winning combination to realize products characterized by unique performance and design. I look forward to seeing the new VMOTO Maxiscooter circulating on the streets around the world, which I hope will be the first project of a long collaboration,” says Charles Chen, CEO of Vmoto.

“Vmoto is a Partner that can best understand the potential of combining design and innovation, with a particular and original focus on aerodynamic research”, says Giuseppe Bonollo, SVP Sales and Marketing of Pininfarina. “Our natural predisposition for sustainable mobility solutions further fostered the synergy between our multidisciplinary skills and Vmoto’s strong experience in the development of high-quality electric vehicles. We worked together on a concept that has the ambition to innovate two-wheeled electric mobility.”
