Chinese smart glasses maker Rokid snaps almost $53m in four days

Augmented reality (AR) glasses maker Rokid has notched a total of 384 million yuan ($52.9 million) within four days from a slew of investors, the firm announced via its WeChat channel, without divulging details of the funding stage.

The Temasek-backed firm first announced that it has bagged 125 million yuan ($17.2 million) from Yuhang Financial Holdings Group last Friday, followed by another announcement on Monday that the firm has notched 259 million yuan ($35.7 million) from several investors such as Dunhong Capital Management and the Ningbo Ganbei equity investment partnership, also known as Ganbei Investment.

The news comes two months after the Hangzhou-based firm bagged $40 million from Hong Kong-listed online games publisher NetDragon Websoft in September.

Founded in 2014, the firm develops and produces AR glasses that are equipped with features such as light-weight, infrared temperature detection, monocular display, and hands-free voice control interface.

One of its core products includes X-Craft, which is an explosion-proof AR headband equipped with a 5G module. The headband is compatible with safety helmets and hard hats, specially designed for complex and high-risk industrial environments. The firm also claims that it has sold over 30,000 pieces of its consumer AR glasses, named Rokid Air, across the world, as of August 18.
