Volkswagen will produce a new generation of small electric cars in Spain in three years. The VW Group and its Spanish subsidiary Seat have agreed to support the project with the government in Madrid. Seat CEO Wayne Griffiths said this Wednesday: “Today is a historic day for all of us.”
With the small car project, the Volkswagen Group wants to close a gap in the electric model portfolio. The electric cars available to date will be more expensive than combustion engines for a long time to come. The entire automotive industry is faced with the problem that it is in danger of losing groups of buyers with low incomes when it comes to electromobility.
In 2025, Volkswagen wants to start production of the new generation of small cars. Volkswagen brand boss Thomas Schäfer promises: “At an entry-level price of well under 25,000 euros.”
