Autonomous vehicles are being tested on Luxembourg’s public roads.
The test project is under the supervision of the University of Luxembourg. The researchers accompany citizens who take a seat in the vehicles as passengers.
The focus of the 360Lab of the interdisciplinary Center for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) of the University of Luxembourg is the navigation technologies and the application of the HD maps. The division specializes in research into smart mobility in the UK. Innovations in the field of transport are gathered under its roof.
The tests include the creation of HD maps of the region with transport infrastructure and features important for navigation. They provide the basis for autonomous navigation and are produced in cooperation with Civil Maps. The tests will be carried out with a family car that has been requested to be allowed on the roads of Luxembourg. All in all, it is another piece of the puzzle on the way to autonomous driving.
The researchers hope that autonomous driving will lead to a safe and sustainable mobility system in which there are fewer traffic jams thanks to fewer vehicles. The research platform is also used for demonstration and experience.
