BYD targets sales of 15,000 EVs in 2023
Along with the e6 MPV, which was launched in India in November 2021 (first only for fleet buyers and then opened to private buyers in August 2022, and the Atto 3 SUV, BYD India is targeting combined sales of 15,000 units in 2023. The EV maker envisages the MPV to have more sales coming from the fleet segment given its practicality, and expects individual buyers to opt for the more premium Atto 3.
Speaking to Autocar Professional last month, Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, SVP, Electric Passenger Vehicles, BYD India, had said: ““It (Atto 3) is a premium SUV and we will be targeting premium customers who are in the market for their secondary car, which could be an electric SUV loaded with technology. BYD is a technology-oriented brand and the Atto 3 being a ground-up electric SUV offers a big advantage over its rivals.”
Deliveries of the Atto 3, which is now on display at all company dealerships, will begin in January 2023. BYD is planning to open 24 showrooms across 21 cities in India by the end of this year and aims to expand to at least 53 showrooms by the end of 2023. The Atto 3 is available in four colours: Boulder Grey, Parkour Red, Ski White, and Surf Blue.
The BYD Atto 3 goes up against the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric in the Indian market. While it is not a direct rival in terms of price, the Atto 3 will also see competition from the Nexon EV Max.
At present, BYD India has 12 showrooms with plans to expand to 24 outlets by end-December 2022, including five this month (November 2022). By end-2023, the EV OEM is targeting an all-India network of close to 53 outlets.
BYD India is among the carmakers who are participating in Auto Expo 2023.
