Schaeffler takes over the ceramics specialist Ceraspin and thus expands its industrial business. The automotive and industrial supplier announced on Monday that Ceraspin produces ceramic products that are mainly processed into rolling bodies for various bearing applications.
The Luxembourg-based company has been a Schaeffler supplier since 2004. The company did not comment on the details of the transaction. The takeover is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter.
Ceramic is considered a particularly hard and heat-resistant material. It also does not conduct electricity and is therefore used where mechanical parts have to be protected from electrical voltages, for example in generators in wind turbines.
