As part of the new software timetable, the new Volkswagen boss Oliver Blume is probably putting the construction of a new car factory in Wolfsburg up for disposal. The last word has not yet been spoken on the matter, said a person with knowledge of the deliberations. “But it is up for discussion whether this new building should be cashed in.”
The management is sticking to the plan to bring the vehicle onto the market with the new standard software SSP. The only question is whether a new factory should be built for this, or whether the car with the project name Trinity should roll off the assembly line at the main plant in Wolfsburg.
The “Manager Magazin” had previously reported that Blume probably did not want to realize the Trinity announced by his predecessor Herbert Diess for 2026 until 2030. The SSP model platform planned for the entire group will probably no longer be launched with the Trinity as originally planned. That would be the death sentence for the new plant in Wolfsburg’s Warmenau district, the magazine concluded.
In a joint letter to the workforce, Blume and VW brand boss Thomas Schäfer explained: “We are taking the opportunity to look at all projects and investments and to check them for viability.” The situation at the main plant and the employees there are still kept in view .

It is still too early for concrete statements. According to the insider, Volkswagen wants to finalize its revised investment plans in February.
In March, the supervisory board approved funds of two billion euros for the new Trinity factory, with construction scheduled to begin in spring 2023.
