The autonomous driving startup, which is affiliated with General Motors, is now offering day trips.
In the beginning, the rides with the robot taxis were from Cruise free, limited to small parts of the city and only offered at night. This service has expanded over time. Cruise will now also operate in San Francisco during the day, CEO Kyle Vogt recently tweeted.
The service is now available to employees 24 hours a day. Soon these extended hours will be open to the public. The extended hours are the latest addition to GM’s San Francisco subsidiary’s driverless operations.
Cruise opened the service, which operates without human security personnel, to the public in early 2022 and has been charging a ride service fee since June. The service area has increased since the beginning of November. Nowadays, customers can use the service between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. There are 70 vehicles available. In total, Cruise operates a fleet of 300 vehicles in san francisco, Austin and Phoenix. There, too, the offer is to be expanded, because there has been a waiting list since October.
The cost is a base fee of $5 and $0.90 per mile and $0.40 per minute. A tourist tax of 1.5 percent is also payable. In this way, the fare is made up of time, distance and the fastest route. The price is communicated before the journey and remains the same even if, for example, the journey time increases.
