The ADAC driving safety center in Laatzen is being transformed into a test center for autonomous driving.
There are already a few in Germany test centers, but not nearly enough to adequately test the suspected onslaught of autonomous driving over the next few years. That is why more and more test areas are being added. One of them is currently being prepared at the Laatzen driving safety center.
Formal changes are first required for the partial rededication of the site. This affects the development plan, which was recently decided to be changed by the urban development committee. Autonomous driving is to be tested on the site in this way.
The concept is part of a number of test areas in Lower Saxony, such as this Test field on the A39, which is in connection with other motorway intersections in the country. The area has already been precisely surveyed so that the map material can be made available to the vehicles.
Certain traffic situations then arise which the vehicles have to cope with. The vehicles will also be used in simulations. Networking is also taken care of using V2X. The proving ground is then companies such as VW made available.
In addition, the ADAC also wants to record the noises of the vehicles on the site, which is an important criterion for approval. However, it is still unclear by when the area will increasingly be dedicated to autonomous driving.
