Rethink: Also PS monster like the F-150 Ford wants to offer in the future as a hybrid vehicle
The second largest US automaker Ford ill will massively increase its involvement in electric cars. The group will invest by 2022 over eleven billion dollars (9.0 billion euros) in battery-powered and hybrid vehicles, announced Ford manager Jim Farley at the Detroit auto show.
So far, the company had wanted to spend 4.5 billion dollars by 2020 for this. The share of e-cars in the US and most other major markets is still negligible. But alarmed by the hype surrounding Tesla, the major auto companies are now clearly pushing their efforts.
Ford offers with the Focus so far only a US model as an e-version. This range should be extended significantly.
From the coming decade Ford wants to bring its bestseller, the pick-up truck F-150, as a hybrid version on the market. Rival General Motors wants to offer at least 20 models as an e-car by 2023.
