Smart charging specialist The Mobility House has been selected by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to deploy its smart charging and energy management solution ChargePilot for New York City Transit (NYCT), the largest public bus fleet operator in the US.
During a year-long pilot program, The Mobility House will manage charging for 27 charge ports across two bus depots in Staten Island and Queens. Some of the buses require two to four charging sessions per day. By coordinating bus schedules with local utility rate structures, ChargePilot will optimize charging to maximize vehicle uptime and reduce electricity costs.
As part of the Transit Tech Lab program, which involves four New York metro area transit agencies, The Mobility House conducted proof-of-concept modeling, which indicated that ChargePilot could reduce operating expenses by more than $35,000 per month at one of the two depots alone. In the simulation, ChargePilot was able to generate operational savings for 96 percent of the viable trips from the Charleston depot, compared to unmanaged charging.
