BMW is significantly increasing its investments in its new plant in Debrecen in eastern Hungary. A good two billion euros would be spent on the system by 2025, the Munich carmaker announced on Friday. So far there has been talk of more than one billion euros.
A high-voltage battery production facility will also be built on the factory premises on an area of more than 140,000 square meters. This would create another 500 jobs. BMW production board member Milan Nedeljkovic said that the most modern plant in the world is being built in Debrecen.
For the vehicles that are built in Debrecen, BMW relies on round battery cells that can be installed directly in the body. The Chinese battery manufacturers CATL and Eve Energy have already placed orders worth billions for the cells. The people of Munich expect savings of 50 percent; In addition, the performance should be significantly higher.

BMW wants to build new class electric cars in the new plant in Debrecen from 2025. Around 150,000 vehicles should roll off the production line every year. The factory is therefore smaller than the German factories in Dingolfing, Regensburg, Munich and Leipzig.
