US government bans Huawei, ZTE and Hikvision Tech

The ban is intended to protect the country’s communications network. the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently decided to expand the ban on the sale and import of Chinese technology by companies. The aim is to meet companies that pose a risk to national security.

In addition to the companies mentioned above, Dahua and Hytera are also among the companies in question. Their devices may only be imported if it is assured that they will not be used in contexts that pose a risk to security. The basis for this is the Secure Equipment Act. Devices already in use are not affected if they are on the FCC’s Covered List. However, we reserve the right to withdraw existing permits.

US intelligence agencies fear China could force its companies to share information, although the companies have denied it. This also becomes clear in view of the enormous violations of human rights in China. Hikvision’s camera technology is used to oppress Uyghurs and other minorities.

Huawei had previously been banned by the US government, and companies like China Unicom and Pacific Network followed at the beginning of the year. TikTok could also soon be in the crosshairs.
