Assam government’s EV push: Indian Hotels starts EV charging station in Guwahati

The Assam government’s Electric Vehicle Policy of Assam has started gaining momentum as the Indian Hotels Company Ltd in association with Tata Power unveiled in Vivanta Guwahati an Electric Vehicle Charging Station for Electric Vehicles (EVs).

The inauguration was done by Arup Kumar Misra, Chairman – Pollution Control Board Assam along with committee members in the presence of Jayanta Das Area Director North East, Kathmandu, Bhutan, Darjeeling and Tata Power officials.

The company stated Installed with all safety features as per Government mandate, the EV station and its services is located conveniently in the premises of the Vivanta hotel in Khanapara, Guwahati, a unit of the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), for the benefit of all hotel occupants, visitors to the property and for general public.

Das mentioned that the setting up of the EV station in the hotel premises was another step in the commitment by IHCL towards building a sustainable future, using renewable resources, caring & nurturing for our natural environment and Planet Earth. All this has been done within the framework of “paathya “- the IHCL framework of leading positive change with the Taj core value of Trust, Awareness & Joy.

The government has set a target to convert 100 percent of the public transport bus fleet into electric buses (Battery Electric Vehicles) by 2030 besides all government vehicles to be converted to electric vehicles by 2030.

After 2025, only Electric Vehicles will be allowed to purchase and phase out all fossil fuel based commercial fleets and logistics vehicles in all cities by 2030.
