The employees wanted answers, but Katja Dürrfeld didn’t have any. In an internal webcast on the morning of November 15, the Conti CFO wanted to present the automotive supplier’s good figures for the third quarter to the workforce. But they were on a completely different topic: the cyber attack on Continental.
The Handelsblatt had published an article a few hours earlier. It was about a hacker bag list that is publicly available on the Darknet. It suggests that the cybercriminals may have captured sensitive data – also in connection with Conti’s customers and employees.
The employees now wanted to know from Dürrfeld what specific information had been leaked and whether the company was at risk of damage. But the chief financial officer, who is also responsible for cyber security in the group, only told them what they had been hearing for days: the internal investigation was being carried out with the highest priority.
