TuSimple & Navistar stop truck cooperation

Yesterday TuSimple and Navistar announced the temporary end of the joint development of autonomous vehicles.

Despite the trend towards Automation of the trucks the two partners separate TuSimple and Navistar. The startup TuSimple is a leader in the development of autonomous trucks and Navistar is one of the most important truck manufacturers in the USA VW via Traton is involved.

TuSimple is currently facing a fraud case. The boss had to have his take hat, as there is cheating with Hydron. Furthermore, as a company with Chinese roots, TuSimple tends to be on the List of national threats. TuSimple is therefore planning to sell its Chinese business unit.

Navistar asked TuSimple to solve its problems, media reports. Only after the restructuring of the management can you work together again. The cooperation started two years ago and should lead to the production of autonomous trucks by 2024. TuSimple should be able to deliver autonomous trucks off the assembly line and not have to retrofit them. In return, Navistar acquired shares in TuSimple. They were also looking for other partners.

The pre-orders for the trucks, which should go to DHL or USXpress, for example, are not being fulfilled for the time being. Deposits would be refunded upon request. Whether the deliveries will then succeed with Navistar or another manufacturer remains to be seen.
