China Digest: Enkris raises Series C round; Yipeng, PowerEpi bag funding

Enkris Semiconductor has landed “several hundreds of million” yuan in a Series C round, while lithium battery maker Yipeng and semiconductor materials firm PowerEpi have raised funding.

Nio Capital, DragonBall Capital back Enkris

Enkris Semiconductor has landed “several hundreds of million” yuan in a Series C round led by Nio Capital, founded by Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker NIO; and DragonBall Capital, the investment arm of Meituan, according to an announcement on Thursday. 

Xinke Capital and China Renaissance participated in the round, while existing shareholder Chinese acoustic components and audio consumer electronic products firm GoerTek and mobile game developer 37Games re-upped. 

Founded in March 2012, the Suzhou-based firm produces advanced gallium nitride epitaxial materials, which are applicable for power electronics and micro-display products. 

The round comes shortly after Enkris’s Series B+ round in March led by Goermicro, a subsidiary of GoerTek. GL Ventures, Hui Capital, Sinovation Capital, Hechuang Zhiyuan, Gongqingcheng Junhe, SEE Fund, 37 Interactive Entertainment, CITIC Securities, Oriza Holdings, and Shanghai Hushan Investment Management also participated in the B+ round. 

Lithium battery maker Yipeng snaps almost $26m

Yipeng Energy Technology has secured 180 million yuan ($25.8 million) in a funding round led by Yingke PE and Zibo Jingkai Industry Fund, according to a report by Chinese online publication PEdaily.cn on Tuesday. 

The net proceeds will be used to build a manufacturing base in the Zibo Economic Development Zone located in the Jingkai district of Zibo as well as to expand its sales channels. 

Founded in January 2014, Huizhou-based Yipeng develops, manufactures, and sells lithium-ion batteries and energy storage systems for hybrid and all-electric vehicles. 

The firm counts Shaanxi Heavy Duty Automobile, a subsidiary under one of the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers Shaanxi Automobile Holding Group, and  Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus, a medium- to large-sized luxury bus and light van maker, as its clients, per the report.

PowerEpi notches nearly $22m led by SDIC Unity

PowerEpi, which produces Silicon Carbide (SiC) epitaxial layers and other related materials, has bagged 150 million yuan ($21.5 million) in a funding round led by SDIC Unity Capital, the firm announced on Monday via its WeChat channel.

The round, participated by Leaguer Capital, Shenzhen Capital Group, China Capital Management, and Glory Ventures, will help the firm to further its R&D and ramp up its production capability. SiC is a wide bandgap most-widely used in the semiconductor sector.  

Since its inception in October 2020, the Dongguan-based firm snapped funding in an Angel round in November led by SDIC Unity Capital, without divulging the financial details, according to corporate information platform Aiqicha
