Ram Trucks recall aims to prevent cargo spilling onto roads

Stellantis is recalling approximately 1.4 million Ram pickups worldwide because of a tailgate issue that could send unsecured cargo spilling onto the roadways.

The automaker, which also owns the Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Fiat brands, said in a news release Tuesday that a routine review of customers records led to a company investigation that found tailgate striker plates on certain vehicles might not be aligned enough for complete closure.

The recall affects certain 2019-22 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups, but Ram 1500 Classic trucks and those with multifunction tailgates or that have sensors alerting drivers to insecure tailgates are not included, the release said.

The company said it’s unaware of any related injuries or crashes.

Affected customers will be told as early as next month when service, which will be free, will be available. In the meantime, customers are urged to secure cargo as shown in their owners manuals.
