Hamburg as a model region for autonomous driving

When it comes to autonomous driving, Hamburg wants to develop into a model region. A statement of intent.

The Transport Senator Anjes Tjarks (Greens) and FDP Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing want to make Hamburg a “Metropolitan Model Region Mobility”. The focus will be on autonomous driving.

Actually bundles Hamburg already some projects for autonomous driving. These include autonomous suburban trains, a shuttle bus and the automation at harbor, including an autonomous one heavy traffic heard. Hamburg is with VW on this point allied. It has now been decided that around 10,000 autonomous vehicles will drive through Hamburg by 2030.

This should strengthen local transport and make the climate goals achievable. But it should also increase efficiency and ensure transport traffic in the face of a shortage of skilled workers. Wissing wants to leave the test fields and allow the vehicles for traffic.

As far as Hamburg is concerned, there will be the Moia shared taxi in cooperation with VW, but also autonomous robot taxis that operate for public transport. Moia wants to start in the Uhlenhorst and Winterhude districts next year. The autonomous minibuses are scheduled to operate from 2025.
