Amid a tough market environment, as the relative weight of private assets has risen, some LPs may be reviewing their allocations to private equity, Francois Pictet, managing partner at Pictet Group, said at the Asia PE-VC Summit 2022, organised by DealStreetAsia in Singapore on September 27-28.
He was speaking at a session titled “The LP View – Investing in Asia: Opportunities in the largest markets and beyond”.
Pictet further said he sees significant potential in Southeast Asia and India, even as there is a slowdown in dealmaking in the region. “I will put India in the same bracket as Southeast Asia – these are markets where there is tremendous value creation, great demographic trends and economic reforms,” he said.

On China, Pictet said the long-term story is still intact. “It’s just about when people will feel comfortable. [Investors will be] very disciplined in terms of how they look at the new transactions in China, and they will probably focus more on areas where they feel there is less regulatory uncertainty. I think hard tech, manufacturing, and climate are probably good places to look at.”
