Vay without crew in Hamburg

That didn’t exist in Europe yet: autonomous driving without safety drivers on board.

Hamburg is to become the test center for autonomous driving in Germany. A number of projects are already taking place here. Autonomous vehicles without safety drivers on board have been operating here since December, from the start-up Vay. Strictly speaking, the vehicles drive through the Bergedorf district.

The startup was the first company in Europe to receive approval for the trips. Here comes one for that Remote control used, which is controlled from a control center. Nevertheless, one person is in the car in an emergency. Within a defined area, the vehicles may be remotely controlled.

The company from Berlin also wants to celebrate its commercial start in the city area. This will be a mix of car sharing and robot taxis. The booking is made via app and then the car drives up. But you steer the car yourself to the destination and the car drives to the next job. The fare should be cheaper than a taxi. When the service will be available remains unclear.
