The automotive supplier and tire manufacturer Continental has announced a strategic partnership with the US semiconductor company Ambarella. The companies want to work together to develop software and hardware systems based on artificial intelligence (AI) for assisted and automated driving, according to a statement from Continental on Thursday. Santa Clara-based Ambarella designs AI for semiconductors.
In November of last year, Continental announced that it would equip its driver assistance systems with the single-chip system family from Ambarella. Continental’s headquarters are in Hanover.
The other major German automotive suppliers are also pushing ahead with their autonomous driving offerings in view of high growth expectations. At the electronics trade fair CES in Las Vegas, ZF Friedrichshafen presented plans for an autonomous electric shuttle for city traffic. Together with the US mobility service provider Beep, ZF wants to put thousands of vehicles on the road in the USA.
Industry giant Bosch presented innovations in sensor technology for automated driving at the trade fair.
