Oliver Zipse is visibly proud. After all, standing next to him on stage at the Pearl Theater in Las Vegas is none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. The “Terminator” actor and ex-California governor pats Zipse on the chest, exclaims: “The man is fit” and praises BMW’s vision. The BMW boss, who had previously spoken a little stiffly, is beaming.
His group did a lot on Wednesday evening (local time) to make his keynote speech at the start of the CES technology fair memorable: In addition to Schwarzenegger, former “Knight Rider” star David Hasselhoff, his cult car K.I.T. and the human beetle Herbie from the film series of the same name; there is also an attempted ironic short film about the freedom of the 1980s and today’s climate protection. The audience in the packed hall oscillates between amusement and genuine astonishment.
