Tesla is facing an NHTSA investigation in the United States for security breaches related to the Autopilot system. The investigation should proceed quickly, according to the authorities.
There have been a few accidents with Tesla vehicles, even resulting in death. The question is whether drivers pay enough attention to the traffic and whether the problem lies with the car. So whether the cause is due to the monitoring of the driver engagement. California is currently drafting a law against the false advertising from Tesla, the car could drive by itself. It features Level 2 technology that requires you to hold the wheel and keep your eyes on the traffic.
NHTSA chief Ann E. Carlson declined to commit to an exact timeframe for when the investigation will be completed. But it has lasted since August 2021. You want to be thorough before ordering a recall. Previously, it was announced that there are indications that the drivers involved in the accident behaved according to Tesla’s instructions. In this way, the effectiveness of the security measures is questionable.
There is also a tweet from Tesla suggesting that drivers with more than 10,000 miles could switch off the obligation to hold the steering wheel. In this way it is assured that the human being concentrates on the traffic. There were early attempts to circumvent this obligation – whether with can holders or by means of the Autopilot Buddies, which was soon banned.
Last month, NHTSA announced that it had opened two new special investigations into accidents involving Tesla vehicles. The assistance systems should have been activated. Since 2016, almost 40 Tesla special accident investigations have been initiated with similar suspicions. A total of 19 fatalities have been reported in accidents involving Tesla and its autopilot system.
