After 2024, Ford wants to use its own technology that is not compatible with that of Volkswagen, according to electric vehicle boss Sander.

According to a media report, the US carmaker Ford wants to become less dependent on Volkswagen technology for new generations of electric vehicles in Europe.
From the middle of the decade, vehicles with a proprietary system should roll off the assembly line, as Ford’s electric vehicle chief in Europe, Martin Sander, told the Financial Times on Monday. At the same time, no final decision was made about further cooperation with the Wolfsburg team.
Ford has so far installed VW technology in its commercial vehicles. Two models are planned by 2024 that will use the modular electric drive system from VW. After that, Ford wants to use its own technology, which is not compatible with that of Volkswagen, Sander said.
At the end of October, VW and Ford had already pulled the plug on the joint project involving robot cars at the software company Argo AI. Both held 40 percent each and had agreed in 2019 on a broad-based joint development of the technology.
