Tough times ahead for first-time fundraisers in India as investors stretch every dollar

The number of Indian startups raising capital for the first time hit a four-year low in 2022 as investors turned cautious amid a challenging macroeconomic environment and global market volatility. And this year could turn out to be even more difficult for first-time fundraisers, according to some venture investors DealStreetAsia spoke with.

In 2021, as many as 906 Indian startups raised capital for the first time on the back of a better-than-expected economic revival, successful vaccination drives, and alignment of global macro factors at that point in time, according to data available with Tracxn.
