Maruti Suzuki exports first batch of made-in-India Grand Vitaras to Latin America
Maruti Suzuki India has commenced overseas shipment of its recently launched Grand Vitara. The first batch of Grand Vitaras sailed to Latin America from the Kamarajar Port (erstwhile Ennore Port) recently. The company plans to export the Grand Vitara to over 60 countries across Latin America, Africa, Middle East, ASEAN and neighbouring regions.
The Grand Vitara has become the company’s 17th export model. The Maruti Suzuki models with the highest export demand are the Dzire sedan, the Swift, S-Presso and Baleno hatchbacks and the Brezza SUV.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “Supporting the government of India’s efforts to increase exports from India, Maruti Suzuki has taken multiple initiatives to increase its international presence. Expanding the product portfolio for exports has been one of the key pillars of success. By adding Grand Vitara, we now export a range of 17 vehicles. Grand Vitara, unveiled in July 2022, has received overwhelming response in the domestic market and we are confident that the India-manufactured Grand Vitara will meet with similar success in overseas markets as well.”
Maruti Suzuki set to be No. 1 car exporter in FY2023
Maruti Suzuki India, which became the export market leader in FY2022 with shipments of 235,670 units, wresting the crown from Hyundai Motor India (FY2022: 129,260 units), is well placed to retain the PV export crown in FY2023.
As per the latest industry export numbers released by apex body SIAM, Maruti Suzuki has shipped a total of 192,071 units between April and December 2022, up 14% YoY (April-December 2021: 167,964 units). These comprise 154,947 cars, 36,911 utility vehicles and 213 vans.
