Robotics company Boston Dynamics has taught its humanoid robot to grab and throw.
The new Atlas robot from Boston Dynamics is one step further – towards complete freedom of movement. Since 2016 he can walk and get up when he falls down. A year later he mastered one somersault and now he runs, he grabs and can throw.
With his hands he can grab boards, for example. To do this, he must recognize the form of the objects and their function. His hands are modeled on the human hand and they have movable fingers. As seen in the video, he grabs a bag and can throw it at a specific spot.
Its camera sensors also act similar to humans. It can recognize distances and evaluate heights. He is also able to recognize objects so that he can orientate himself and knows where everything belongs. The somersault from a standing position is also impressive.
Atlas is a Boston Dynamics demo project and not for sale, unlike them canine bot from home.
