The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has set a March-end deadline to set up 52 EV (electric vehicle) charging stations in the city.
The NMC has already identified locations for the charging stations. Also as many as 35 charging stations would be set up by using funds received under the National Clean Air Programme (N-CAP).
An NMC official, while talking to TOI, said, “The civic body has already received Rs 10 crore for setting up charging stations under the N-CAP, while the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has agreed to provide funds for the remaining 22 charging stations.”
The official added, “We submitted a list of 22 locations for the proposed EV charging stations to the UNDP following which physical inspection of the areas were carried out. We are now waiting for a reply from the UNDP.”
The UNDP is helping several countries in various sectors, including key areas of energy efficiency and climate change mitigation. “There has been a steady rise in the number of electric vehicles in the city. Thus, there is a need to strengthen the infrastructure for EVs,” the official said.
The NMC has prepared an ambitious plan of setting up 106 EV charging stations across the city in phases as it feels that the use of electric vehicles would keep growing. “We will soon appoint an agency to set up the EV charging stations and a tender for this purpose will soon be floated,” the official said.
