The upcoming and recently completed apartment projects are now setting up electric vehicle (EV)stations on their premises to cater to the growing demand for electric car and bike users.

The coastal city has witnessed an increase in the use of electric vehicles – both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, in the last two years. When it comes to cars, there is a demand for both luxurious and mid-segment electric vehicles, according to dealers.

Anisha Saldanha, a resident and member of the Palm streak apartment association in Bejai said that apartment members have expressed a desire for common EV charging stations to be installed on the property. “We have explored the options and found that having car EV charging points requires more electrical work with additional power supply requirements. Therefore for the time being, we are planning to have common EV charging stations for two-wheelers and gradually will expand to four-wheelers,” she said.

The promoters of upcoming residential projects are adding common EV ports to every parking floor or individual parking lot to cater to the needs of homebuyers. Rohan Monteiro of Rohan corporation said that one of his projects near Capitanio already has common EV charging ports for residents.

“We are planning EV charging stations or ports in the upcoming Rohan City project in Bejai. There will be three to four EV ports or stations on every parking floor. Depending on demand, the numbers will be increased in the coming days,” said Monteiro.

K Shrinath Hebbar of Land trades builders and developers says that buyers are currently demanding EV charging stations at every parking spot.

“Therefore, we are setting up EV plug-in ports in every parking space allotted to buyers in our new project ‘Nakshatra’ in Mannagudde. Each recharge port is connected to the electricity meter of an individual’s apartment. Common EV charging ports will lead to issues, so we have planned for individual charging ports. It is hassle-free and one pays for his own use. EV charging ports or stations are one of the latest necessities for home buyers,” he said.
