NASHIK: The Nashik Regional Transport Office (RTO) registered 19% more vehicles in 2022 when compared to 2021 numbers, showing a rising trend after two years of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Senior RTO officials said the revenue generated by the Nashik RTO last year from vehicle registration was over Rs299.9 crore. In 2021, the RTO had earned a revenue of Rs224.9 crore
Vasudev Bhagat, the deputy RTO, said that the number of vehicle registrations from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022, was just a few hundred short of the one lakh-mark at the Nashik RTO.
As against 83,306 vehicles registered in 2021, the Nashik RTO registered 99,344 vehicles last year.
Among the vehicles registered last year, 66,931 or 67.4% were motorcycles, scooters and mopeds.
The Covid-19 restrictions came into force towards the end of 2019-20 financial year. In 2019-20, the Nashik RTO registered 1,00,542 vehicles.
Deputy RTO Vasudev Bhagat said the vehicle registrations would fast catch up with the pre-Covid times, which in turn would help in better revenue generation.
Among the total vehicle registration were also e-vehicles. In 2022, the Nashik RTO registered 5,490 e-vehicles as compared to only 878 registered in 2021.
Officials of the RTO said that the registration of two-wheelers in the e-vehicle category was more as of the total number of e-vehicles registered last year, 4,947 were bikes and scooters.
With increasing prices of petrol and diesel, more and more people would opt for e-vehicles in the coming years, said RTO officials. Once the issue of charging points is resolved across the district and state, maximum number of people would opt for e-vehicles, said officials. Other than over 66,000 bikes and scooters, the Nashik RTO registered 17,573 cars as well last year.
Apart from two-wheelers and cars, which people buy for their private commute, 6,424 tractors were also registered, which indicates robust agricultural activities in Nashik district.
The RTO officials said that with changing times, farmers were buying tractors not only for ploughing the fields but also for transporting their produce to the markets.
According to the figures provided by the Nashik RTO, 6,863 tractors were registered in 2021.
Meanwhile, 899 new autorickshaws were registered last year as against 892 registered in 2021. Many people who lost their jobs after the Covid outbreak started buying autorickshaws to earn a living.
