On the way to entering Formula 1, Audi has taken the next step. The carmaker acquired a minority in the Sauber racing team, as the Swiss motorsport company announced on Monday.
This is “an important milestone” on the way to Audi’s start in Formula 1, which is planned for 2026. The traditional Sauber team is the strategic partner of the Volkswagen subsidiary.
Nothing was initially known about the specific scope of Audi’s investment in Sauber. In the coming season, Sauber will still be racing in Formula 1 with his previous partner as Alfa Romeo.
Audi announced its plans to enter the racing series last year. The basis is a new technical regulation that will apply from 2026. The chassis for the future Audi works team is to be built in the Sauber racing factory in Hinwil.
