Bio Farma eyes new revenue streams
Indonesia’s state-owned pharmaceutical company Bio Farma, in cooperation with e-commerce enabler SIRCLO, launched on Thursday a web-based B2B marketplace called Medicine Distribution Business Zone, or Medbiz, as part of the efforts to boost revenue.
“Today, we are launching several revolutionary products that are hoped to become new revenue streams for Bio Farma,” Soleh Ayubi, Bio Farma transformation and digital director, said in a statement.
Bio Farma has estimated a 49% drop in revenue to 22.1 trillion rupiah last year, compared with 43.4 trillion rupiah in 2021, according to media reports, due to lower demand for vaccines as the pandemic began to subside.
“What we did was more than merely digitising the way we sell in the pharmaceutical industry, we revolutionised it,” he said, noting that the owners of clinics, pharmacies, and hospitals can save 20% time by procuring medicine online.
Medbiz was softly launched in August last year. Since December 2022, Medbiz it recorded more than 3,800 transactions done by over 3,300 users and 56 distributors across the archipelago.
