MUMBAI: BMC plans to set up more charging stations for electric vehicles in public parking lots owned by BMC.
In its budget for 2023-24, it mentioned: “The Central government is promoting use of electric vehicles (EV) in India and issued regulations and standards, guidelines to set up vehicle charging systems. Accordingly, BMC is setting up charging systems in municipal public parking lots and running them through private service providers.”
It added: “Cost of setting up the charging system will be borne by private organisations and BMC will get revenue on basis of revenue-sharing principle.”
BMC has around 26 public parking lots in the city. It also operates many on-street parking lots. Officials said they are also going to explore mobile electric vehicle charging station options which means a charging station can be installed inside a vehicle and via that point any electric vehicle can be charged on the road.
Fire brigade and state chief electrical engineer have issued guidelines for safe charging, the budget says.
