Facelift for BMW X5 and X6
The Munich-based company is revising its successful SUVs.
The fourth generation of the X5, introduced by BMW at the end of 2018, has been revised together with the sister model X6. The innovations affect optics, drives and interior. The market launch is in April with prices starting at 86,300 euros. External distinguishing features are flatter LED headlights, redesigned air vents and a new taillight graphic.
The cockpit now offers a curved, two-part giant display consisting of a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment cluster. A glass roof, surround sound and cup holders in the center tunnel with heating and cooling functions are available as options. Standard equipment includes an adaptive chassis system, with the X6 in an M version. The basic assistant equipment includes traffic sign recognition, lane keepers, collision warning and the revised parking assistant with remote control function via app.
The classic combustion engines have been upgraded with 48-volt mild hybrid technology, which provides 9 kW/12 hp of additional power with an electric motor integrated in the transmission and increases efficiency. The 4.4-liter eight-cylinder M60i now delivers 390 kW/530 hp, the three-liter six-cylinder 40i and 30d 280 kW/380 hp and 219 kW/298 hp respectively. The performance of the X5 50e has increased by 98 hp to 360 kW/490 hp. This plug-in hybrid can drive up to 110 kilometers purely electrically with the battery, which has been enlarged to 25.7 kWh, and is not available in the X6.
