Tata Tiago EV prices up by Rs 20,000, remains India’s most affordable electric car
Four months after it opened bookings for its first electric hatchback offered at an introductory price starting at Rs 849,000 through to Rs 11.79 lakh, Tata Motors has increased the sticker price of the Tiago EV by Rs 20,000 across all seven variants (see new price table below). Despite the revised price, the Tiago EV remains India’s most affordable electric car.
Tata Motors had launched the Tiago EV on September 28, 2022 in four trim levels, offering only the first 10,000 units at introductory prices, of which 2,000 units were reserved for existing Nexon EV and Tigor EV owners. However, following a strong market response on the first day itself, the company extended the bookings at the same price for another 10,000 units.
Vivek Srivatsa, Head, Marketing, Sales and Service Strategy, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said: “The Tiago.ev is a special product as it is makes electric mobility accessible and mainstream. It has received a phenomenal response from customers with 10,000 units being booked on the first day and 20,000 bookings achieved within a month. It is now time for us to move to the next leg of this journey. The starting price of the Tiago EV range at Rs 869,000 lakh is a nominal Rs 20,000 hike from the proposed introductory price – committing to our promise of democratising the EV market and keeping the product accessible to all by retaining the starting price below Rs 10 lakh.”
ARAI-certified 315km range
The Tiago EV gets two battery packs – 19.2kWh and 24kWh – with 250km and 315km MIDC range, respectively, and it is powered by Tata’s Ziptron high-voltage architecture. With the smaller battery pack, the electric motor in the Tiago EV produces 61hp and 110Nm, and with the larger pack, it develops 74hp and 114Nm.
The Tiago EV is capable of fast charging, and both battery packs can be topped from 10 to 80 percent in 57 minutes using a 50kW fast charger. The higher trims of the Tiago EV get equipment like rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, TPMS and leatherette upholstery.
On February 3, the company began deliveries of the Tiago EV across the country. delivering the first batch of 2,000 units to customers in 133 cities.
Tata Motors, the market leader in the electric passenger vehicle segment in India, has the largest product portfolio comprising the Nexon EV, Tigor EV, Tiago EV and the Xpres-T (for fleet buyers). In CY2022, the carmaker retailed an estimated 30,284 units and commanded an 80% market share.
