The Amazon startup for autonomous driving offers a driving service for its own workforce.
Zoox was born in 2020 bought from Amazon. You now have one presented their own vehicle and already tested on semi-private Stretch. The company is now planning to put the autonomous vehicles on the road. They are to be made available to employees in California. Testing would initially be limited to trips to Zoox’s headquarters in Foster City.
This is one step closer to providing the service. The vehicles will operate unmanned during testing in California. They have neither a steering wheel nor pedals, but can drive in two directions. The speeds reach up to 35 mph, so about 50 kilometers per hour.
The company received approval for the trips from the authorities last week. However, this does not apply to all public roads in the city state. How many Zoox vehicles are on the road is unknown. But there should be dozens. It is also unknown when exactly the test run is to start. In addition, the duration of the test run has not been announced.
In California, vehicle failures must be in one report be reported. Zoox does not refer to these incidents as outages but as support incidents. Therefore, there should be no notification about it.
