China Digest: Newsonic Technologies, TransThera Sciences bag funding

Newsonic Technologies has snagged almost $44 million in extended Series A rounds, while TransThera Sciences took home over $37 million in an extended Series D round. 

China Growth Capital co-leads Newsonic’s Series A rounds

Newsonic Technologies, which develops high-end acoustic and radio frequency (RF) filters suitable for 5G communications, has secured 300 million yuan ($43.6 million) in Series A+ and A++ rounds, the firm announced on Tuesday. 

Radio frequency filters allow radio signals across different spectrum bands to pass through in a bid to enable information transmission. 

China Growth Capital (CGC), Kington Capital, and China Fortune-tech Capital are the lead investors of the round, per the firm. 

The round, joined by a slew of investors such as Hui Capital, Wise Road Capital, FutureX Capital, and SND Financial Holdings, will be used for the R&D and supply-chain planning of the firm’s Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) and Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters. 

Founded in March 2021, the Shenzhen-based firm counts major smartphone brands including Samsung, Motorola, Nokia, and Xiaomi, among some of its clients. 

Guoxin Investment leads TransThera’s Series D+ round

Biopharmaceutical firm TransThera Sciences, which develops small-molecule therapies for oncology, inflammatory, and cardiovascular diseases, has snapped 260 million yuan ($37.5 million) in a Series D+ round led by state-backed Shanghai International Group’s corporate venture capital firm, Guoxin Investment.

Trinity Innovation Fund, Nanjing Jiangbei New Area State-owned Assets Management, BOC Capital Investment Holding, Ruitong Venture Capital, and Honest Capital are among some of the participating investors of the round. 

Founded in April 2014, the Nanjing-headquartered firm sealed a $100-million Series D round led by CPE and China Structural Reform Fund in July 2021. Sixty Degree Capital, China Merchants Capital, GP Healthcare Capital, CoStone Capital, and Jiangsu Ruihua Investment Management also joined the round. 

The company is also backed by SDIC Venture Capital, Summit Capital, Ennovation Ventures, Eastern Handson, GP Capital, Grand Yangtze Capital, Morningside Ventures, PharmaBlock, and others.
