The company matriarch of the Franconian automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler, Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler-Thumann, is resigning from her mandate and only remaining on the committee as an honorary member. The change should take place at the annual general meeting on April 20, Schaeffler announced on Friday. This marks the end of a female entrepreneurial career that is almost unique in Germany after around three decades. Schaeffler-Thumann is considered one of the richest people in the country.
“The last three decades of my life have been characterized by my commitment to the Schaeffler company and the large Schaeffler family. I will remain closely associated with the company as a shareholder and am happy to be leaving the next generation in good order,” said Schaeffler-Thumann on Friday.
Former CDU politician Katherina Reiche is to replace the 81-year-old on the supervisory board. Reiche is chairman of the board of the energy supplier Westenergie and is considered a hydrogen expert.
