Noida: The UP government has decided to offer a 75% tax exemption to owners who scrap their old commercial vehicles.
“The governor is pleased to exempt these categories of vehicles from the payment of tax. In the first category, all vehicles registered in the state before 2003 will get 75% tax exemption; in second category all vehicles registered after 2003 and before 2008 will get 50% tax exemption; in third category, diesel vehicles registered in the districts of NCR region falling in the state after 2008 and before 2013 will get 50% tax exemption,” a notification issued by principal secretary L Venkateshwar Lu stated on Monday.
The government will also offer exemptions in penalties on all types of vehicles scrapped at facilities registered under the Motor Vehicles (registration and functions of vehicle scrapping facility) Rules, 2021.
Siyaram Verma, the ARTO (administration) in Gautam Budh Nagar, said the road tax for private or non-commercial vehicles in the state was paid in full at the time of registration. But for commercial and passenger vehicles, taxes have to be paid on monthly, annually or half-yearly basis.
“If commercial vehicle owners do not pay their taxes, we seize the vehicles and issue recovery certificates. With this government order, such old vehicles will be exempted from commercial tax if they are scrapped,” he said.
