An AI powered integrated traffic management and eChallan system is managing the traffic at the Merces junction, in northeastern part of Panaji, the capital of Goa. This system was recently launched by the Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
According to the Chief Minister, the AI powered system is capable of detecting emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks and automatically clearing the road. He said that the system would benefit traffic police by monitoring traffic and helping with security. Sixteen smart signals are being deployed in Goa to manage the traffic.
The smart system is expected to bring down the major accidents in the city, and also help the local police in tracking the movement of anti-social elements. The Chief Minister said that the day was not far when AI would be used to make arrests.
The AI powered traffic management system has been developed and implemented by Beltech AI. The deployment at Merces junction is on PPP basis. The Government of Goa is willing to further expand the scope of the implementation on a PPP basis by collaborating with private investment.
With AI managing the traffic, there will be no scope for the police to be biased towards anyone. Real time photographs and videos captured by the AI will be used to nab and penalize those who violate the traffic rules.
