Vehicles traveling on national highways will have to shell out up to 14% more toll tax from April 1.
This translates to a hike of INR 5 per day to INR 1,150 per month, depending on the category of the vehicle.
The annual hike is likely to jack up the already-soaring price of essential commodities, which will impact lives of ordinary citizens.
Toll fee hike is based on wholesale price index (WPI) under the provisions of NH Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.
While toll rates for cars were hiked by INR 5 to INR 10 per trip, for other heavy vehicles the toll was jacked up to INR 40 per trip.
