Talent is more important than capital for developing artificial intelligence (AI) right now, Meituan co-founder Wang Huiwen told Caixin, as he hunts for new hires to join his startup striving to launch a challenger to ChatGPT.
Wang, who retired from Meituan in late 2020, declared his intention to build a ChatGPT-like service in February, announcing a $50 million investment to set up Beijing Lightyear Technology Co. Ltd. to rival OpenAI and recruit top talent in the field.
