Stellantis to build electric 2025 Ram 1500 Rev pickup in U.S. in 2024

NEW YORK – Stellantis will build its first electric pickup, the 2025 Ram 1500 Rev, in the United States, the automaker’s CEO said at the New York auto show on Wednesday.

“Pickups are core to the U.S. lifestyle,” CEO Carlos Tavares told journalists. “Range and towing are fundamental. We will bring technology better than everything we know about the competition.”

That technology includes a projected 500-mile range with the pickup’s biggest battery, fast high-voltage charging, and the ability to tow up to 14,000 pounds. Ford, General Motors, Rivian and struggling Lordstown Motors have electric pickups on the market. Engineers at the automaker’s Auburn Hills, Michigan, campus developed the Rev to outdo the existing competition, and what they expect from upcoming models from Chevrolet, GMC and Tesla.

“Ram’s done their homework,” S&P Mobility senior analyst Stephanie Brinley said. “They know what pickup buyers want and are coming to market with a truck that checks those boxes.”

Speculation immediately turned to Stellantis’ plant in the Detroit suburb of Sterling Heights as the 1500Rev’s home. But no decision has been announced.

The pickup will be “best in class, the benchmark,” Stellantis North America COO Mark Stewart said.
