Hidco on Thursday installed a 24-hour electric vehicle charging unit at Sampanna parkomat at Alipore. Officials said there are plans to set up two more EV charging stations at the parkomat soon, which will be able to charge about 50 electric vehicles together at a time.
The ground floor of the parkomat will be used for this purpose.
“This will be beneficial for electric cabs as they will be able to charge any time of the day,” said an official.
The rate has been fixed at Rs 12 per kilowatt and Hidco itself will operate the charging unit. There is also parking space for EVs, along with other cars and two-wheelers, at normal rates.
In New Town, NKDA is working on the process to install and operate 10 EV charging stations, which will offer per charging units at comparatively lower rates than the privately operated ones.
NKDA had earlier set up about 11 EV charging stations in several places across New Town. Officials said that with EVs projected to be the preferred mode of transport in future, the demand for fast-charging stations will increase.
