The dispute between the federal government and the EU over the phasing out of new vehicles with combustion engines dragged on for weeks. It was then recently decided by the EU states for 2035 – with one surprising exception: With e-fuels, combustion engines should also be possible in the future.

Development board member Michael Steiner calls the technology in the Handelsblatt dispute “the best solution that I can think of” – as a supplement to electromobility. The car manager can also “imagine” Porsche’s bestseller, the 911, as an e-fuel variant.
Michael Bloss, climate chief of the Greens and member of the European Parliament, counters this: For him, e-fuels are “like Chanel No. 5 – made for a small rich stratum”. In the debate, he announces a blockade against the e-fuels compromise in Parliament.
